Inten­tion to use mar­ket-based mech­an­isms to meet tar­get: No

Palau is cur­rently engaged in Art­icle 6 activ­it­ies under the Par­is Agree­ment through vol­un­tary cooper­at­ive approaches (Art­icle 6.2). This engage­ment is facil­it­ated by a bilat­er­al agree­ment estab­lished in 2014 between Palau and Japan under the Japan­ese Joint Cred­it­ing Mech­an­ism (JCM). As of 2025 Palau has four registered JCM pro­jects that address mit­ig­a­tion from rooftop sol­ar systems.67 Palau reaf­firms its com­mit­ment to the fur­ther imple­ment­a­tion of Art­icle 6.2 mech­an­isms and pos­sible cooper­a­tion in the cred­it­ing mech­an­ism (6.4) and non-mar­ket approaches (6.8). The coun­try accounts for mit­ig­a­tion from the registered JCM pro­jects in this NDC (e.g., avoid­ing double count­ing), but does need sup­port to address ini­ti­at­ives to enhance nation­al expert­ise in car­bon mar­ket mech­an­isms and tech­no­logy to improve mon­it­or­ing, report­ing, and veri­fic­a­tion pro­cesses along with inter­na­tion­al reporting
