Palau Submits Article 6.2 Initial Report on the JCM (Joint Crediting Mechanism with Japan)

The Republic of Palau has submitted its Initial Report under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, reporting on its participation in the JCM (Joint Crediting Mechanism with Japan). The report is now available on the UNFCCC’s Centralized Accounting and Reporting Platform (CARP).

The A6IP Center supported Palau in drafting the report and provided online, article-by-article explanations to strengthen understanding of the reporting requirements. This collaborative process has not only enabled Palau to take this important step but also lays the foundation for future submissions covering additional cooperative approaches.

Together with the Maldives—who submitted their Initial Report earlier—Palau’s progress highlights the strong commitment of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to Article 6 cooperative approaches. These milestones give new momentum to international cooperation “walking together with islands.”

“Palau’s submission is a significant milestone. It demonstrates that even the most climate-vulnerable nations are shaping the future of international carbon markets. With the Maldives and Palau leading the way, SIDS are showing how the JCM can advance ambition and partnership,” said Mr. Kazuhisa Koakutsu, Director of the A6IP Center.
