
Article 6 Implementation: Momentum Builds in Early 2026
Recent developments under the Paris Agreement’s Article 6 signal accelerating global engagement.
Since our last update in mid-December, progress includes new MoUs between Ethiopia - Singapore and Malawi - Singapore, as well as finalized bilateral agreements between Zambia - Switzerland and Mongolia - Switzerland.
Additional key progress includes:
- 1,097 Prior Consideration Notifications submitted (up from 1,092).
- 116 CDM activities approved for transition (up from 103).
- 12,055 registered projects under independent carbon standards (up from 11,930)
- 84 Article 6 authorized activities under independent Carbon standards (up from 72)
- 129 NDC 3.0 submissions (up from 123)
- Bhutan released the Carbon Markets Framework for the Kingdom of Bhutan 2025.
These milestones underscore strengthened cooperation for Article 6 mechanisms worldwide.
