A6IP Center facilitated Discussions on Article 6 Implementation at the 5th AZEC International Conference to Develop Carbon Markets

The Paris Agreement Article 6 Implementation Partnership (A6IP) Center moderated two thematic sessions at the 5th Asia Zero Emission Community International Conference to Develop Carbon Markets (AZEC-DCM), held in Hiroshima on 15 July 2026. The conference, organized by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), brought together representatives from AZEC partner countries, partner institutions, and the private sector to discuss the development of high-integrity carbon markets and practical implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

Session II: Practical application of carbon credit methodology and leading examples in line with Article 6

The A6IP Center and MOEJ jointly led and moderated discussions on the practical application of carbon credit methodologies and emerging examples of Article 6 implementation. Participants exchanged experiences and lessons learned from ongoing initiatives, highlighting the importance of robust methodologies, transparency, and environmental integrity in supporting the growth of international carbon markets.

Session III: Domestic frameworks under Article 6 to incentivize foreign investment

The A6IP Center  and MOEJ also led and moderated discussions on domestic frameworks that can help incentivize foreign investment in Article 6 activities. The session explored policy, regulatory, and institutional approaches that can create enabling conditions for private-sector participation while supporting national climate goals and sustainable development priorities.

Advancing regional collaboration for Article 6 implementation

The two sessions brought together government representatives, partner institutions, and private-sector stakeholders to share practical experiences, discuss enabling frameworks, and identify opportunities to mobilize investment for climate action under Article 6.

As countries across the region move from readiness to implementation, effective knowledge sharing and regional collaboration are becoming increasingly important to unlock high-integrity carbon market opportunities and facilitate investment in mitigation activities.

Through these sessions, the A6IP Center continued to support practical implementation of Article 6 by fostering dialogue among governments, partner institutions, and market participants, while contributing to the development of transparent, high-integrity carbon markets across the AZEC region.
