In meet­ing its 2021 – 2030 NDC, New Zea­l­and intends to use cooper­at­ive approaches, includ­ing inter­na­tion­al mar­ket mech­an­isms. New Zea­l­and is com­mit­ted to ensur­ing all cooper­at­ive approaches it engages in have envir­on­ment­al integ­rity through robust account­ing includ­ing trans­par­ency in account­ing and gov­ernance, and safe­guards against double counting.

New Zea­l­and aims to achieve our second NDC primar­ily through domest­ic emis­sions reduc­tions and removals. We recog­nise the value of inter­na­tion­al cooper­a­tion and may par­ti­cip­ate in cooper­a­tion under Art­icle 6 dur­ing the NDC peri­od. We will ensure any par­ti­cip­a­tion is con­sist­ent with all applic­able guid­ance and is repor­ted through our Bien­ni­al Trans­par­ency Reports. We are com­mit­ted to ensur­ing cooper­at­ive approaches have envir­on­ment­al integ­rity through robust account­ing for the avoid­ance of double count­ing, and to ensure trans­par­ent reporting.
