“Fiji recog­nises the role of inter­na­tion­al mar­ket-based cooper­a­tion in facil­it­at­ing, exped­it­ing and enhan­cing tech­no­logy devel­op­ment and trans­fer, capa­city build­ing and access to fin­an­cial resources to sup­port low car­bon and cli­mate resi­li­ent efforts. Fiji will explore the poten­tial of bilat­er­al, region­al and mul­ti­lat­er­al mar­ket-based cooper­a­tion, includ­ing in the con­text of Art­icle 6 of the Par­is Agree­ment to sup­port the achieve­ment of its own NDC and to provide addi­tion­al mit­ig­a­tion out­comes to sup­port NDC attain­ment by oth­er countries”

Fiji plans to stra­tegic­ally util­ize Art­icle 6 of the Par­is Agree­ment and inter­na­tion­al car­bon mar­kets to fin­ance mit­ig­a­tion actions. Fiji will pur­sue bilat­er­al cooper­at­ive approaches to gen­er­ate Inter­na­tion­ally Trans­ferred Mit­ig­a­tion Out­comes (ITMOs), focus­ing on large-scale emis­sions reduc­tions in key sec­tors like renew­able energy and trans­port­a­tion. For com­munity-based pro­jects, Fiji will con­sider ways to engage with vol­un­tary car­bon mar­kets to fin­ance ini­ti­at­ives that sup­port the achieve­ment of Fiji’s NDC targets.
