
Insights from SB62 GIZ Capacity Building Dialogue

At the GIZ-hosted side event during SB62, on 16 June 2025, Kazuhisa Koakutsu, Director of the Article 6 Implementation Partnership (A6IP) highlighted the partnership evolving role in accelerating the operationalization of Article 6 through strategic capacity-building efforts. A6IP outlined its ambition to scale and deepen support to countries by fostering collaboration with regional alliances, RCCs, and existing institutions, emphasizing a holistic approach that includes both policy frameworks and project transactions.
A6IP highlighted persistent capacity gaps in Article 6 understanding and implementation, particularly in areas such as authorization, tracking, reporting, and project development. The A6IP's tools and support mechanisms—such as readiness assessments, project initiation guidance, methodology support, and collaboration with voluntary carbon market initiatives—were presented as practical solutions to these challenges. It also emphasized transparency, harmonization of institutional frameworks, and robust tracking systems were emphasized as essential for a trustworthy and scalable carbon market. And stressed the importance of aligning national frameworks with Article 6 requirements and encouraged stakeholder engagement to identify mitigation priorities and drive project development.
