Article 6-related Outcome of the G7 Ministers’ Meeting on Climate, Energy and Environment in Sapporo

The G7 Ministers’ Meeting on Climate, Energy and Environment, held in Sapporo, Japan, from April 15 – 16, 2023, is one of the ministerial meetings held in conjunction with the G7 Summit.

Results

As the outcome of this meeting, the G7 Climate, Energy and Environment Ministers’ Communiqué was adopted, and the “Paris Agreement Article 6 Implementation Partnership” and the establishment of its center, the “Article 6 Implementation Partnership Center” as a secretariat of the Partnership, were mentioned in the Communiqué (Paragraph 57).

In addition, in order to promote the development of carbon markets while ensuring their environmental integrity, especially in volunary carbon markets, the “Principles of High Integrity Carbon Markets” was adopted as its annex.
